As it came out last summer, I waited in tension to see what the level looked like. And it overwhelmed all of my expectations! Unfortunately, Jereth did not want to include cutscenes with his level, be- cause he says he is not good in making FILMs and such art stuff. That's why I asked Jereth for a permission to make cutscenes for his level. And now, after the year of Assassinating Darth Vader, you have this package which will add more fun to the level. The cutscenes of A.D.V. go yet one step forward compared to the ones from Yavin and Bounty Hunt. In Yavin, I did not use any newer art resources: They originated from LucasArts' games "X-Wing", "TIE Fighter" and some screenshots from "Rebel Assault". The Bounty Hunt cutscene contained some other, self- created features, like one Crow sequence, Vanguard outer views, Jabba's palace and talking Jabba himself. But it used the *not very* varying DF music. The A.D.V. cutscenes go one step further. For each scene, I edited different music scores (again, from TIE Fighter, X-Wing, Dark Forces) to make them perfectly fit to the pictures. It also uses additional gfx re- sources by me, like a Shuttle going into hyperspace (the X-Wing one had a Rebel sign on the centerwing so I couldn't use it), 2x Vader's TIE Advanced. But take a look by yourself... How to install: --------------- The cutscene package is really easy to install. PC: --- On PCs, you have to place the files of the ZIP archive into your DARK directory. As the game searches for the LFD file both in DARK and in DARK\LFD directory, it wouldn't matter if you placed the VADCUT.LFD into your DARK\LFD dir. But the BAT file checks only the DARK directory so please go along and put it into your DARK dir. Thanks. List of files you have: KILVADER.BAT --- Modified Kilvader.BAT VADCUT.LFD --- The cutscene itself, with more than 100 single resources! VADCUT.LST --- The new CUTSCENE.LST, patched dynamically via BAT. VADCUT1.GMD --- The music for Shuttle Departing, patched dyn. VADCUT2.GMD --- The music for Shuttle Arrives at Audacity, ditto. VADCUT3.GMD --- The music for Escape from Audacity, ditto. VADCUT4.GMD --- The music for the Afterword. VADCUT5.GMD --- New credits music. VADCUT.TXT --- This file. MAC: ---- Me, I am not used to Macs. I only know of them from Allen Newman and some others. What I have to tell, it's not as easy to run the cutscene on Mac than on PC. Esp. because of the much patching, which Mac doesn't support AFAIK. Anyway, there is surely a way to do the thing work. You need some Mac GOB uti- lity, which can re-pack and pack GOB files. Or a whole level editor like Dark Forge. Now, extract the files from the VADCUT package into a temporary directory. Take VADCUT.LST and rename it to CUTSCENE.LST. Then rename VADCUT1.GMD to GROMAS1.GMD, VADCUT2.GMD to GROMAS2.GMD, VADCUT3.GMD to ROBOT1.GMD, VADCUT4.GMD to ROBOT2.GMD, and VADCUT5.GMD to CLOSCRED.GMD. Now you have to add these files to the KILVADER.GOB. Therefore you either ungob KILVADER.GOB into some other temp directory, and copy the upper mentioned files into it (old CUTSCENE.LST will be overwritten) and re-GOB, or you open the GOB with some better tool, delete CUTSCENE.LST from it and add the uppper mentioned files into it. As a result, you should have a new KILVADER.GOB which contains all the renamed files. Now you have to place VADCUT.LFD into your DARK\LFD directory (I am not sure how it works in DARK directory but \LFD should work). And be sure you have the Mac- fitting version of A.D.V. (available on Mac 3D Total Action page: http://www.contact.net/judo/dark.html ) How to run: ----------- Well, if you placed the files correctly, you should run Kilvader as usual: by KILVADER.BAT. The slight modifications to this file are done to achieve that the files vital for the cutscene are patched in the similar way like DFBRIEF.LFD. After DF has been quitted, they are removed again. Replaced and added cutscenes: Text crawl is new. Read it, *please*. The scene after Textcrawl, before credits is new. 2 scenes before Secbase are added. Lots of scenes after Secbase are added. Also don't press ENTER when you see the good ol' DF award scene- it's changed in some way, too... The end credits are basically the same, but have new music. At problems or feedback, mail me at: ppklassen@aol.com How to uninstall: ----------------- Well, if for some reason, you want to de-install A.D.V. cutscenes, you have to delete the files from the package from your DARK directory. Further you have to restore the original Assassinate Vader KILVADER.BAT. For Macs, delete the VADCUT.LFD from the DARK directory. I don't know how Mac behaves when he cannot find a LFD with a cutscene. DOS DF ignores it, so I think MAC does, too. If it doesn't, restore the original KILVADER.GOB. LEGAL STUFF ----------- Most resources used in these cutscenes are (C) LucasArts Entertainment Company and Lucasfilm Ltd. Sounds are edited, the original sounds are courtesy of LEC. Star Wars, Darth Vader, Jabba are (C) Lucasfilm. Dark Forces is a trademark of LEC. Assassinate Darth Vader is by Jereth Kok. You may copy this package, supposed that all files are included.
