Marilyn Manson Vs. Spice Girls FAQ 1.0

Core Release

Compiled 10/15/98

We are e-mailed some common questions about the project on a regular basis. This page represents a FAQ or Frequently Asked Questions with answers. Please refer to this before e-mailing us your questions.

Section I: Basic Questions

Compiled by Darkhawk
What exactly is MMvSG?

Marilyn Manson vs. Spice Girls is an original partial conversion for the LucasArts game Jedi Knight. It is a multiplayer ONLY PC and has not only new skins, sounds, and music, but some never-before seen features.
When is MMvSG slated to come out?

By the time you read this, it will be available to the public. It took a little longer than expected, mostly due to school and unfamiliarity with some of the editing tools. ; ) However, more features are being added all the time so expect new updates as time goes by.
What will the MMvSG levels be like?

Level 1: Spice Girl Deathmatch Bus Ride (you're on a moving bus)
Level 2: Marilyn Manson Aftermath Concert
Level 3: Capture the Flag with Manson and the Spice Girls (details not yet disclosed)
Other, specific details will not be released as to keep you all surprised =)
Will MMvSG be a PC (partial conversion) for Jedi Knight(JK) or Mysteries of the Sith(MotS)?

Certainly, both games have their strengths and weaknesses so it is a tough decision. Currently we are developing the Jedi Knight version.
Will there be any new weapons included in MMvSG?

No.
Any new music or sound effects?

Glad you asked! Yes, MMvSG will have a completely new soundtrack featuring selections from both bands (how exciting!). In addition to music, MMvSG will have a multitude of sound effects and taunts.
What will be released first?

The PC will be broken up into 4 parts. First to be released will be the "Core" which contains the skins, sabers, etc and is the basic game element. Next will be the simultaneous release of the Music addon which will feature the soundtrack/sound effects, and the level pack, and last of all a bonus optional cutscene is planned to be released.
This all sounds cool, where can I beta test MMvSG?

There will never be a public beta test of MMvSG. The only type of beta testing for MMvSG will be private.
Where can I get ahold of the skins/sounds/music/level/etc. for MMvSG to see what the PC is like?

Sorry, but the only "teasers" given out before the final release will be screenshots on the MMvSG homepage. You'll have to take our word for it until it comes out!
I am good at (fill in skill here) and would like to help work on MMvSG. Who do I talk to?

We're sorry, but right now we do not feel that help is needed at this time. If we do need help with the PC, we will post a message concerning the type of help on the MMvSG homepage.
Where do I send my Manson/Spice Girls sounds/skins/etc. that I've made?

Definately not us. We appreciate your interest in the PC but we are working on our own sounds/skins/etc. and need to focus on our own work.
How do you make skins/sounds/etc.?

With a lot of work and practice. I'm sorry, but we are too busy with MMvSG to help everyone who wants to immediately make JK/MOTS addons. There are many web pages out there that can tell you the basics (if not the specifics) of Jedi Knight editing. A good place to start is http://www.jediknight.net/.

Section II: Core Release Specific Questions

Compiled by Kurgan
What is the Core Release?

Well into the project we decided it would be easiest and most efficient and make for smaller downloads if we broke up the project into sections and released them as they were completed. The Core is the first of 4 releases for the JK version of MMvSG. It will be the basic (hence the name core) engine needed to play. You will use it with the later released components for increased fun.
What exactly is included in the Core Release?

The Core Release contains the basic elements that make MMvSG what it is, including

- 15 new skins, replacing ALL basic Jedi Knight Multiplayer Characters

- CTF and Team Skin Support

- 10 added sabers (the old sabers can still be used)

- New saber handle replacement

- Modified version of Ramon Galvan's Taunt Patch including 10 unique audio taunts

- Built-in AntiCheat protection

- Replacement Screen BM's

- Bonus sound effects added

- New credits

- Modified Text (to reflect changes in the conversion)

Where are the levels and music?

The music addon we have been working on since the start. To save on download time, it has been made a seperate and optional download. It will probably be the largest gob file weighing in at an estimated 11 mb unzipped. Keep in mind that this is optional, but highly reccomended as the mixed music and effects are awesome and should totally immerse you in the MMvSG phenomena. The levels will be released sometime in the future. They are being planned at this time, but are far from completion. One CTF level and two deathmatch levels will be created, as mentioned in Section I. The music addon will correspond to music in the levels so it will be released about the same time. If you join a game and aren't using the music addon but the host is, you just won't hear any music but they will.
What if I find a bug/glitch?

We would prefer if you don't bombard us with email about it, but if you do find a bug or glitch in MMvSG (associated with our addon, NOT with the JK engine, your computer, your Internet Service Provider, or your operating system) please post it on the MMvSG Message Board at JediKnight.net and we'll try to address it in a prompt and orderly fashion.
What kind of computer do I need to run MMvSG?

Any computer that can successfully run JediKnight should be capable of running the core release and all subsequent releases. It has been developed on a Pentium 233 MMX with 32 mb Ram. It was seen running in 3D accelerated mode on an ATI 3D Rage II and Monster 3D II 8 mb video card setup with no problems.
I can't wait for you guys to make levels! I'm going to make some myself!

Since this is a core release and it is designed to run with the regular Jedi Knight basic levels and most (if not all) addon Multiplayer Levels, you are free (and encouraged) to make your own "MMvSG style" levels for the core. However, if you want any kind of advice/support (and that does not mean we will make your specific level for you just because you asked) from us you must email us and ask nicely first. Please ask permission before you use any textures/sounds we have created. We are interested in any levels you plan to release, so a friendly email telling us about your level(s) is greatly appreciated.
I want to make Hanson Skins for it!!!!

Why? ; ) Ok, now if you really have your heart set on making them, we really can't stop you, however we ask that you do NOT attempt to modify the Core Gob. This is our intellectual property and not something we want messed up by somebody else. Just think if you made a beautiful oil painting and somebody snuck into your house and spray painted it all black and then told you that it "looks better that way." Anyhow, if you find a way to add new skins to the Core without modifying our file, please let us know and we may allow it.
May I put any of your skins/sabers/sounds in my skinpack/conversion?

No, please do not do this. Again, this is something we spent alot of time creating and we don't want it ending up strewn in little pieces all over the internet. You are free to open up the gob and look at the skins texture by texture if you like, but don't use them in your packs without our express permission. The sounds we used in this Core Release (excluding the Taunt Sounds) happen to have been recorded from the SW Trilogy. You may use those if you like, but the rest of the things were created by us and are not to be "borrowed."

For more details on permissions, etc, see the readme file in the zip.
