With so many versions of DirectX available, you'd think that Microsoft would provide an interface for handling uninstallations, but nooo... M$ does not like people to uninstall things they want standardized across all PC's. I personally think that NK's website should be a permanent Link on every PC's desktop and also a permanent in Favorites, but hey, they just won't listen to me! Anyways, I digress...
So it's a known fact that an installation of DirectX adds a billion or so hidden system files. If you 'upgrade', some of those files are upgraded and many are not. This makes it impossible to 'downgrade' versions of DirectX and Microsoft recommends you re-format and re-install your entire OS if a new version of DX causes you problems. Huh?!
Well, I just added a handy Utility to the Download Center... what does it do you ask? Does it hunt down Osama? Nope... it removes DirectX from your system. ALL DirectX files completely wiped, as if it had never been there.
If your an XP user, forget you ever read this. It's not compatible with your OS. Like anything ever is... heh
