A newcomer to the Console Gaming market is about to unleash a 'David' to go up against the 'Goliaths'. Infinium Labs is close to releasing the Phantom, a gaming console they describe as "able outperform the XBOX, Sony Playstation II, and GameCube." Ok, that's certain to begin fueling an awful lot of discussion, so I've decided to jump in and take a closer look...

You just really gotta wonder... It would seem that technology has advanced to the point where console games should have many more features than are currently available. Now, this company claims to have ALL of those features. Are we all wondering whether or not the other 'Big 3' withhold features, releasing them one at a time in order to make billions on newer consoles every year? Well it's either that, or this new console won't come close to the feature hype they're putting out. For example, here's a list of features they claim to have ready to go:
  • Fastest console on the market
  • Broadest selection of preloaded games
  • Cross Platform capabilities
  • State of the art design and architecture
  • Advanced accessories and wireless capabilities
  • Online connectivity for multi player gaming
  • Seamless upgrades and patch management
  • A multi tiered subscription service that meets the needs
of casual, moderate and hard-core game players
  • Demo games before purchasing or subscribing
  • Games on demand
  • Game Rentals
You simply have to surf their site to appreciate the more in-depth descriptions associated with these features. Cross-platform capabilities include the ability to play across the Internet with PC gamers, for example.

The console demo is supposed to hit the Game Developer's Conference in March, and a public release (who'd have guessed it..) in November for the Christmas season.

Thanks to Lionspride for submitting some links about this new console!!
