Ok, so I've been editing for over a year now and have had about four e-mails sent to me. The most recent one asked a very good question. So I thought I'd post my answers to the questions I've received so far.

Hi,
I've just started using Jed 0.95 and I find it very hard. I downloaded a version 0.93 tutorial, but it still won't help me. I am getting very frustrated because I want to be able to create my own levels etc. and I was wondering if you'd be able to help.
Thanks,
Much Appreciated,

Hi,
Welcome to JK/MOTS level editing. It is a lot of fun once you figure out the basics of using JED.

My best advice to you is to visit http://www.massassi.net/ The Massassi Temple is the BEST place to get information and help on editing. They have extensive resources. I suggest you work through their tutorials starting with the set called "the basics." Also visit their great forums. The ones I find very useful are the Editing Forum, where you can ask questions about making levels, the Cog Forum where you can get help with cog programming, and the Showcase Forum where you can see what others are doing. I visit these forums regularly and read through the posts to get ideas and learn more about editing techniques.

When you check out The Massassi Temple, you'll see a menu list on the left. Here's what will be useful to you as a beginner:

Articles: general thoughts on editing levels.

Basics: START HERE for an introduction to using JED.

Forums: go here to ask questions on the editing or cog forums.

JK Specs: a link to the online guide to the JED and COG files.

Tutorials: GO HERE for all sorts of tutorials.

Under Download there are links for plugins and programs that help with editing. Two that I use regularly are ConMan to extract files and MatMaster to make Mats (textures).

Using Massassi Temple for help is better and faster then relying on one person such as myself. You'll get faster answers to your questions and a variety of responses. Remember there are no "dumb" questions. Everyone had to start at the beginning. One note, you'll find that a few of the tutorials where written before the current version of JED so there are sometimes easier methods for some techniques discussed.

If you are interested in single player levels then you should also visit The Admiral's Command Chamber at http://www.commandchamber.net/ They also have their own forums, and resources.

For other editing help and good troubleshooting info see MikeC's page: http://mikec.massassi.net/editing.htm

Good luck and have fun!

Will you beta-test my level......?

I did beta-test a level for someone and he was very thankful for a detailed review. I am willing to try out your level, depending on my interest and time. Single player levels are preferred because I do not play multiplayer games online.
Will you join my clan / mod / total conversion / website, etc......?

I do not answer these e-mails (I've only had two). Sorry, but I don't even have enough spare time to work on my own stuff.
