The History of the Wraith League of Players

WRAITH SQUADRON
(February 1998-July 1998)

In February of 1998, a small group of relatives who played X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter players decided to form a squad. They decided that the squad should be an open group devoted to good sportsmanship and respect. As this group was forming the "Wraith Squadron" book was publish and so they adpoted that name. Thus the Wraith Squadron was formedIn the months that followed the group grew in size and standing in the zone. The Squadron was sub-divided into Flight Groups with commanders to look after the troops in each. The Wraith Squadron was known for their values as well as their ability. As June approached, there were 45 active members and a desire to include Jedi Knight was expressed. This became the catalyst for expansion and a new name.

WRAITH LEAGUE OF PLAYERS
(July 1998-September 1998)

In July of 1998, a newly structured Wraith League of Players debuted in the zone. Now the Wraith Squadron had been transformed into a 3-alliance, 2-service group. Having an Army (Jedi Knight) and Navy (X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter) for Alliance, Imperial, and Independent forces. This group continued to grow and expand as players of both games started to join. The structure was modified to have a Supreme Allied Commander for each Alliance with a Commander of each Army and Navy. Each Navy had several ships and each Army had several regiments. As the new League grew, it was becoming a larger and larger task to keep up with the roster which led to a big change. During this time the membership grew to about 60 active members and the future looked bright.

WLP and its Domain
(October 1998-March 1999)

In October of 1998, the Wraith League of Players moved a new base. The WLP.ORG domain was purchased and hosted on a new service, with database capabilities. The addition of the database made it possible to have a roster which was updated automatically. With the members section came biographies and departments. This became the basic framework upon which the current system is designed. Membership grew to a high of 100 during this timeframe, but the web site was becoming more and more difficult to maintain.

A New Hope
(March 1999-September 1999)

In March of 1999, the domain was moved to a new server with enhanced capabilities. With this new server came a whole new message board and improved security. During this time, the Alliances and Army/Navy concept was dissolved as it was creating undue tension between players. The current command structure was developed defining offices with specific roles and tying the rank to that office. The operation of the WLP became much more de-centralized and corporate in structure with the completion of the database maintenance forms available to the individual departments. The departments of the WLP could now operate with autonomy and the department heads could manage their area on their own. More of the site was automated and membership continued to grow to around 150. The events section was completely automated and Jedi Wars (a JK week of war) was founded.

Affiliates
(October 1999 - The Future)

In October of 1999, the WLP reached another juncture in its growth. The WLP formed an affiliate for the players of Rainbow 6. This sister organization was dubbed WLP Special Forces. The parent organization of Wraith League of Players now had 2 groups operating in different game arenas as completely different entities. This has paved the way for further expansion and continued growth. The Wraith League of Players continues to position itself to provide a home for players interested in playing simply for the fun of playing.

Affiliates
(May 2000 - July 2003)

In May of 2000, now ranking near 250 members, the WLP formed an affiliate for the players of Age of Empires. This sister organization was dubbed WLP Empire. The parent organization of Wraith League of Players now had 3 groups operating in different game arenas as completely different entities. The instant success has continued to spur growth.

New Domain
(July 2003 - Present)

In July 2003, WLP purchased a new domain. Now at WraithLeague.org, we gained more space cut cost. Also with the new domain came the new and improved design. After many hours of coding and image building the DoEN staff finally got everything up and functioning.
