Tricks - Introduction on skinning your Zone

No programming skills
are required for this. I learned this from a friend back
in 1998. I know for damn sure you guys at zh.com know
about this.. lol, but im posting this turtorial so if
you wanna copy/paste it to make it easy, go right ahead.

Download "Reshack" from
http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/
Whats reshack? Resource Hacker, allows you to
edit resources, dlls, exe's, and such.
1) Open
reshack, file.. open...
go to your msn gaming zone
directory and open one of the following.
Commonres.dll: Allows you to remove ads,
loading logo, latency color.
lobby.exe: You
can edit the menu in the lobby..
lobbyres.dll: This holds most of the
skinning, gamerooms, etc.
zone.exe: Allows
you to edit the zonefriends skin, menus, etc.
\Editing a image/
Find what you want
to edit, right click..save as, blahblah.. Open it in
your favorite paint program, edit it.. dont resize it
unless you know wtf your doing.. save it as a bmp.. go
back into reshack rightlick on the resource in the
folder that you want to edit, click "replace resource"..
. then click "open file with new bitmap"... chose ur
file u saved...click replace.
\Editing a
menu/
Click the resource u wanna edit, in the bg
it will show text.. of the menus and stuff, then in
front it will show a preivew of the dialog, just rename
the text in menu's.. click "Complie Script" at top of
reshack program..
\Saving your edits/
Duh, file.. save.. Your done, when u save it, it
will automatically make a backup of the original one
names original_blahblah.dll or w/e.
\Replacing old files/
To replace old
file, just open the original_blahblah.exe and save it as
blahblah.exe, for example (original_lobby.exe).. open
it, save it as (lobby.exe).
There is much more
you can do with reshack, just mess around with it.. and
see for yourself. This can also be used to edit your
game backgrounds in your favorite games.. (Aoe, Rogue
Spear, etc).
One more thing to include..
\Chaning background of your lobby/
Ok,
all lobbies have a different background determining what
game it is, to edit it, just open reshack, then go to
msn gaming zone folder.. then go to your game's folder
that you want to edit the background too, and edit the
image. save. ur done. GG'z.
