New_C (New Container)

The New_C (new container) Tab purpose is to allow you to choose the container file type and location of the files. The creation of the new container is completed on the "Files Tab" in most cases.

At present you can create the following container files.

Creating a new container involves 4 steps on this tab.

  1. In the radio button box choose the type of file you want to create
  2. If you wish the new container to be located elsewhere choose a new path for the "New filename and path"
  3. Select the directory for cage to retrive the files from
  4. Press the begin button.

Step 1: involves simply selecting the file type for the game . This lets Cage know which format of file it is going to create. Some entrys have "subdirs" marked behind them , this lets you know ,Cage will include files in the directory and all subdirectories that you choose. Normaly Cage will only include files in the selected directory.

Step 2: When you select a radio button Cage will fill in a path and filename to the default "TEMP" subdirectory which Cage will create. If you wish you can move and rename the created file later, or press the folder button beside the entry to select a new location and filename. Or type in a new path.

Step 3: There is no default location for Cage to include files from. It is up to the user to tell Cage where to get the files from. You do this by selecting any file in the directory you want included in your container, for those file types that support paths Cage will also include all files in any subdirectories.

Step 4: The "Begin" button will be enabled once you have selected a directory for the files to be retrived from. Pressing the "Begin " button , Cage will then build a list of files, the actual container is not wrote to disk yet, you will be given a chance to remove any unwanted files before the container file is created on the files tab. At this point for most files other than Half-Life Wad , Cage will change to the "files Tab".

Half-Life WAD , Being as Valve Software provided the tools already to create the mip maps etc for the wad files from bmp`s. Cage will call two of these tools, the files are included with Cage and have to be in the "halflife" subdirectory . A console window will open and a list of the BMP files in the selected directory will be made, Then the actual wad building exe is called, if any errors occur they will show up in the console window. Other wise the new wad file will be created into a directory the same as any other file type.
